Jupiter enters Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018 and leaves on December 2nd, 2019.
Welcome home, Jupiter! The much-anticipated transit of Jupiter in Sagittarius is heralded as the arrival of a benevolent ruler, as he emerges from his dark quest through the Scorpionic underworld. On his way, he has unearthed and brought to the surface the deepest, darkest depths that lie within the core of the human psyche.
The animalistic nature of the Centaur who is half-man, half-horse/party animal is returning to his abode where he is most relaxed, effective, and gracious. However, he might slip into his comfort zone where he can be egotistical, obnoxious and self-indulgent.
He Is Risen
At the exact moment Jupiter enters Sagittarius on November 8th at 12:39 UTC, he will be culminating in the highest point of the sky; a grandiose crowning moment!
The Sun and Moon are both in Scorpio, having just met as a New Moon. The placement of the luminaries during Jupiters Sagittarian ingress signifies the type of work Jupiter will be doing over the next 12 months.
Birthing a new phase and releasing the stagnant and toxic situations which have outstayed their welcome – even the darkest depths have been brought towards the light, presenting a fantastic opportunity for us to seek deeper meaning, and to bring justice to those who seek it.
As Jupiter’s Scorpionic chapter closes, his exciting adventure in Sagittarius begins. Being a seeker of knowledge, wishing to educate and explore new cultures and philosophies, his transition from the underworld signifies freedom from bondage, horrors, and injustices.   Â
#MeToo
The #MeToo movement has also been a way for others to find their place in the dark and oppressive grips of the Scorpionic underworld. With the initial revelations about Harvey Weinstein being revealed, shortly followed by some shock revelations about Kevin Spacey, a simple hashtag expressed something that, for most, is just too difficult to put into words.
People want justice, and as the greater benefic, Jupiter may begin to serve this on the darker aspects of the collective psyche, which he dragged into full view. He may at least provide some reasoning or closure during his homecoming.
You’ve Gotta Have Faith
We all need something to believe in; something to look forward to; something to hope for. It’s a difficult time as far as the political arena is concerned. Jupiter’s transit could be a great time to manage the more challenging aspects of the resulting actions of fellow social planet, Saturn, who moved through Sagittarius from September 2015 to December 2017.
During that time we experienced Trump being voted into power in the USA, Theresa May becoming Prime Minister in the UK, and high friction as public opinion divided the UK over the decision to leave the European Union.
The Political Bird
The political pattern of the past which is being untangled is the interplay of the moral duality of human nature. The see-saw of left and right is in constant motion; whichever wing of politics is currently in public favour, they’re both wings of the same bird: the political eagle soaring above with an overarching view of how best to govern humanity. Having a vision, seeing the bigger picture and playing the long-game are all political mindsets which fall into Sagittarius’ domain.
Jupiter in Sagittarius is a time for connecting with what we believe in. It is a time for finding meaning in the area of life it touches, and it helps us to connect with something bigger than ourselves, and this existence. This is an accepting and forgiving transit around spiritual and religious belief systems – something which could do with a little lift right now; religious groups, extremism, and the crossover of politics have been an area of tension and debate for quite some time.
Why?
In general, Jupiter in Sagittarius is a time where we are optimistic. We look at the bigger picture. Things have meaning, we are open to wider philosophies and are more forgiving.
And perhaps in some way, Jupiter will kick-start a collective search for meaning. As Gemini, the opposite sign, asks: Who? What? When? Where? How? Sagittarius is the sign that asks: Why?
What you can do to find out what Jupiter in Sagittarius means for you, is look back to the last time this transit occurred which was back in November 2006.
My Last Jupiter Return
As someone with a 17° Gemini Ascendant, Sagittarius occupies the cusp of my 7th house of relationships, as well as half of my 6th house of work, colleagues, and daily life. I have a Jupiter–Uranus conjunction in my 6th house, and Neptune in my 7th.
During 2006, I started working for the UK Immigration Service, granting visas for people visiting the UK from abroad. I was exposed to a wide variety of different cultures and found myself dreaming about the foreign lands of the people I was in contact with on a daily basis.
In my diaries, I noted that a lot of my colleagues came from different religious backgrounds and I would listen to the many different creation stories, the different ideas of heaven and how to get there, and how they found their spiritual or religious path. I was seeking meaning and purpose and these people inspired me to explore the potential of religious and spiritual community.
That same year, I also met a man who I entered a relationship with for the next 10 years of my life. He opened my eyes to things I had previously thought impossible and inspired a deeper search for meaning within myself. He introduced me to the vast potential of astrology by going to The Astrology Shop in Covent Garden and getting my natal report printed in a book, as a gift for me. I’d never received anything like it and my eyes were opened to a whole new world.
Jupiter in Sagittarius triggered a deeper spiritual search within me; I was looking for answers, exploring why I was here, what it was I was supposed to be doing with my life and asking: Is there something beyond this existence and how can I connect with it to fulfil my soul’s purpose?
I remember that time in my life fondly; It was a happy, carefree time. I made friends who I am still in touch with today and I had fruitful relationships with special people who opened my eyes, broadened my horizons, and helped me to discover myself by sharing their adventures, beliefs, and philosophies.
